UROBA was founded in 1908 in Monessen, Pennsylvania, in order to strengthen opposition towards the Roman Catholic policies regarding celibacy and centralized ownership of church property. Its headquarters was in Pittsburgh. Displaying a pronounced Slovakian cultural influence, it is likely that UROBA had many members from the south side of the Carpathians.
